Luxury vinyl plank: the wood look that handles real life
LVP gives you the look of hardwood with a surface built for spills, pets and kids. It is the fastest-growing floor in the country for good reason, and we stock it in Lewisville.
How LVP is built
Every plank is a sandwich of layers, and each one does a job:
- Wear layer. A clear top coat that takes the scuffs and scratches. Measured in mils.
- Design layer. A high-resolution printed image of wood grain.
- Core. Rigid SPC (stone polymer composite) cores are dense and stable. WPC (wood polymer composite) cores are a bit softer and warmer underfoot.
- Backing. Some planks come with an attached pad for comfort and sound.
Many LVP products are rated waterproof. Always check the specific product's rating and the manufacturer's installation rules.
Choose the wear layer for your household
The wear layer is the single best predictor of how a vinyl floor will hold up. Here is the general rule of thumb we use in the showroom.
| Wear layer | Good for | Think of it as |
|---|---|---|
| 6–12 mil | Guest rooms, closets, low-traffic spaces | Light residential |
| 12–20 mil | Kitchens, living areas, homes with kids and pets | Everyday family use |
| 20+ mil | Entryways, rentals, light commercial | Heavy duty |
Always confirm the rating on the specific product's spec sheet.

Where LVP shines
- Kitchens and dining rooms
- Basements and slab floors
- Whole-home, wall-to-wall installs
- Homes with pets and kids
How it's installed
Most LVP is a floating click-lock floor: planks lock together and float over a prepared subfloor. Some is glue-down, which is very stable in large or sunny rooms. Our installers will tell you which is right for your space.
