A little preparation makes install day faster, safer and less stressful. Use this checklist.
The week before
- Confirm your install date and what is included (furniture moving, removal of old flooring).
- Plan where furniture and belongings will go while the room is empty.
- Arrange care for pets and young children for install day.
- If you are getting LVP or LVT, ask whether your product needs time to acclimate in the home, and keep the house at normal living temperature.
The day before
- Empty closets of anything on the floor.
- Remove small items, decor, lamps and anything fragile.
- Take down wall hangings near the work area.
- Unplug and disconnect electronics.
- Clear a path from the driveway to the rooms.
Install day
- Be available at the start to walk through the rooms with the installers.
- Expect some noise and dust, especially if old flooring is removed.
- Doors may need trimming if the new floor is taller than the old one.
After installation
- Follow the manufacturer's guidance on when to move heavy furniture back.
- Put felt pads on furniture legs before you move pieces back onto hard floors.
- Vacuum new carpet; some loose fibers at first are normal.
- Keep your receipt and warranty information together. See our warranty page.
